Apple Butters are Back!

If any of you guys have been up to visit us in the last week or so, you’ll probably have noticed we ran completely out of apple butter! This is the first time that’s happened, and it’s actually a good thing, because it means business is booming more than ever. But we hate to disappoint our customers, so it’s a huge relief to announce that we got our fresh batch of apple butter in today! We now once again have both the 14 oz and the 28 oz jars of the pure and the unsweetened apple butters available for you to sample and purchase, and we sure are looking forward to the weekend 🙂

Hope to see you!

Wines and Fuji Apple Update

We have received our new shipment of sweet and fruit wines and we’re all stocked and ready for the weekend! Come on up and try some Triple Berry Oregon wine, or perhaps get into the holiday spirit with a taste of Holiday Cheer wine–a festive blend of cranberries, oranges, and cloves, which can be served warm or chilled. And of course, there’s always our staple wine, the well-known-and-loved Blackjack hard apple cider wine with blackberry juice added.

On the apple front, we now have Fuji apples in, and they’re just as tasty as they are pretty. So, we look forward to seeing you and your family up here soon!

Apple Variety Update

Just a quick update on the varieties of apples we now have for sale, as of September 16:

Gravenstein: A semi-tart apple with a medium texture developed in the 17th century or earlier. It’s great for making apple sauce and apple cider.

Gala: Sweet and crisp, this apple is perfect as a snack, and ours are conveniently smaller than most grocery store varieties, so they’ll fit easily in your child’s lunch box.

Vasquez: The hybrid variety developed in the 60’s by Juan Vasquez, the head foreman of this ranch at the time. It’s a cross between a Granny Smith and a Pippin, and has a tart, snappy flavor and firm texture. Great for pies, turnovers, or sliced up and dipped in our caramel sauce.

Spartan: A mildly tart apple, somewhere on the flavor scale between a Granny Smith and a Gala, with a nice medium texture.Great for both eating and baking.

Rome Beauty:  A cooking apple which originated near Rome Township, Ohio in the early 19th century. It is one of the 15 most popular apples in North America.

Pink Pearl: This apple is great for applesauce due to its noticeably soft texture combined with a sweet flavor.  You’ll hardly need to add sugar when you’re cooking with this apple.

Red Delicious: Everyone knows about these beautiful red apples, and they’re a staple of the apple industry, with a recognizable top-heavy shape and pale yellow flesh.

Parkdale Beauty: This antique variety is not commercially available and is the most commonly asked-about apple on the floor. It’s a slightly soft apple and has been described as having floral notes to its sweet taste.

So, there you have it so far, folks. If any of these apples appeal to you, or even if you’re just curious to try some, feel free to come up and ask us for a sample. We’re ready and happy to help you on your apple quest!

Labor Day Holiday Weekend

labor-day-logo
If there’s anything we’d call an “official” opening day of apple season, it’s Labor Day–and of course, the weekend that precedes it. As such, we’ve been harvesting our apples like crazy, and pressing cider every day to prepare for a traditionally busy weekend. We’re going to be hosting our array of vendors with their wide variety of wares, and both days of the weekend we’ll be offering entertainment. Saturday, we’ll have Andy Lepak with his country music out on our patio, so bring your partner and get a dance or two in before wandering in for some cold, crisp apple cider and a slice of apple crisp a la mode. On Sunday, as always, we’ll have our own True West Pirates wowing everyone with their Hollywood-esque stunts, for free as usual.

The varieties of apples we have on the shelves right now are Gravensteins, which are a semi-sweet apple breed developed in Denmark in the late 1700’s; Galas, which everyone knows for their sweet crispness; our own Vasquez, a tart cross between a Granny Smith and a Pippin and a definite fan-favorite; Parkdale Beauties, which are an antique variety with a sweet, pear-like flavor; and Pink Pearls, which are yellowish on the outside with a pale meat that tinges pink toward the center. We also have organic peaches and pears for a limited time right now. If you haven’t already come up this season, don’t miss the opportunity to catch these early-season apples before they’re gone!

Our new season hours are Monday through Friday 9-5, and Saturday and Sundays we’re here 9-6 through the end of November.

We look forward to seeing you!
